PHOENIX - The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (“NARUC”) recently named Arizona Corporation Commission Chairwoman Lea Márquez Peterson as co-vice chair of NARUC’s Committee on Water. The announcement was made earlier this week at the organization’s Winter Policy Summit.
The Committee on Water works to increase awareness and understanding of issues surrounding the uses and reuses of water and wastewater across the United States. The committee works closely with several federal and local agencies and stakeholder groups, including the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Association of Water Companies, and the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators, to develop policies and host discussions regarding these matters.
“I am honored to be named to the leadership of this esteemed group,” said Márquez Peterson. “The great state of Arizona has made immense contributions to water policy issues, but there is always more to be done and more to be learned through collaborations with fellow regulators in groups such as NARUC and the Committee on Water. I cannot wait to share, and discuss, these ideas with my fellow commissioners.”
Founded in 1889, NARUC is a non-profit organization dedicated to representing state public utility commissions, which regulate utilities that provide essential public services such as energy, water, sewer, gas, and telecommunications. NARUC's members include all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
