Open Meeting Highlights - March 23

The Arizona Corporation Commissioners vote on matters including electric and water utilities, railroad, and securities items. Highlights from the meeting include:

Smart Thermostats for Graham County Electric Cooperative

Commissioners voted unanimously to approve an amended Energy Efficiency Plan (EEE Plan) for GCEC to add smart thermostats to their residential lighting, water heater, and window weatherproofing programs. GCEC customers will see cost savings in their monthly electricity bills due to the suspension of a surcharge that now has sufficient funds for implementation of the EEE Plan. The recommendation encourages GCEC to increase marketing and outreach to ratepayers, while an amendment from Commissioner Thompson ensures the Smart Thermostat program runs with fiscal oversight for the 2,000 customers who actively use GCEC’s Commission-approved Energy Efficiency programs.
