ACC Promotes Investor Education During Financial Capability Month

Phoenix, Ariz. -  April is recognized as National Financial Capability Month, a time to highlight the value of high-quality financial education.  The Arizona Corporation Commission provides an array of resources for investors to utilize during the month of April, and throughout the year, to learn about ways to build financial resilience and improve your financial knowledge.

“No matter your investor profile or where you stand on your investment journey, the Commission’s Securities Division has tailored resources designed specifically for you,” said Chairman Jim O’Connor. “Building a solid foundation in financial literacy empowers investors to recognize and steer clear of fraudulent schemes. Throughout April and beyond, we invite investors in Arizona to explore our comprehensive investor education materials.”

During this year’s Financial Capability Month, the Commission urges both new and experienced investors be proactive in safeguarding their financial interests by visiting azcc.gov/azinvestor.

    • Verify legitimate registration sources. Contact the Commission’s Securities Division by telephone at 602-542-0662 or by email, SecuritiesDiv@azcc.gov to confirm that you’re dealing with an authorized investment professional.
    • Scrutinize investment solicitations. Pay attention to typos, misspellings, and factual discrepancies in any investment solicitation. Cross-check the provided information about the investment with that offered in the investor education resources at the Commission’s Securities Division. Inconsistencies are red flags.
    • Conduct independent research. Avoid relying solely on the promoter’s marketing information. Check out the investment and compare it to others in terms of risk and return. Check public court records on the promoter.
    • Trust your instincts. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Do not feel pressured to invest. Take your time and consult with an objective third party who you know and trust.
