Phoenix, Ariz. — On November 22, 2023, Julie Fedorchak, President of National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), appointed Commissioner Nick Myers as Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Nuclear Issues- Waste Disposal.
The Subcommittee on Nuclear Issues- Waste Disposal is a subcommittee of NARUC’s Committee on Electricity, which “develops and advances policies that promote reliable, adequate, and affordable supply of electricity. Through strong collaboration with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and related federal agencies, the Committee also seeks ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of regulation through education, cooperation, and exchange of information.”
“I would like to thank President Fedorchak for the opportunity to serve in this capacity” said Commissioner Myers, “Nuclear energy will remain a critical part of our nation’s energy future as more electric utilities begin to adopt new advanced nuclear technologies to complement the existing nuclear resources they depend on to provide safe, reliable, and affordable service to their customers.”
“I am looking forward to working with Commissioner Myers as we provide information and research for our fellow commissioners across America to make nuclear energy more affordable and sustainable,” said Commissioner Tim Echols (GA), Subcommittee Chair. “With companies like TSMC, Rivian, Hyundai and many others wanting to set up manufacturing in states across the country, nuclear energy allows us to provide carbon-free power 24/7 and meet the climate goals set forth by leaders. Solving the challenges associated with spent nuclear fuel is one of our greatest challenges.”
Commissioner Myers also serves on NARUC’s Committee on Critical Infrastructure, Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Markets+ State Committee (MSC), and the Western Resource Adequacy Program Committee of State Representatives (WRAP-COSR), and is an active member of the NARUC-NASEO Advanced Nuclear State Collaborative.
