Vice Chair Nick Myers Thanks Arizona Water Company and City of Sedona

Nov 18, 2025, 15:18 by Nicole Garcia

Phoenix, Ariz. — Vice Chairman Nick Myers extends his appreciation to Arizona Water Company and the City of Sedona for working together to provide relief to Sedona water customers related to the cost of the East Sedona Storage Tank and Booster Station Project (Sedona Project).

The Sedona Project includes an underground 1.5-million-gallon storage tank and 3,000 gallon per minute booster station on a 1.05-acre parcel just west of SR 179 in the eastern portion of the Sedona water system.

At the Commission’s July 25, 2025, special open meeting, Vice Chair Myers introduced an amendment directing Arizona Water Company to engage with the City of Sedona to explore ways to reduce the costs to customers associated with the Sedona Project, which included the City’s requirement to underground the new water tank to preserve the area’s scenic character.

Following productive discussions, the City of Sedona agreed to waive the 3% franchise tax on customer bills, which according to Arizona Water will offset 45% of the added costs of undergrounding the tank.

“I’m pleased the City of Sedona was willing to come to the table and find a resolution that provides some rate relief for Sedona customers,” said Vice Chair Myers. “This collaboration shows what can be achieved when private utilities and local governments work together for the benefit of the community.”
