Phoenix, Ariz.— On July 7, 2026, Chairman Nick Myers visited the Novo BioPower Plant, the state’s only biomass energy facility. The plant is a 27 megawatt (MW) biomass power plant in Snowflake, Arizona, utilizing wood waste as a primary fuel source.
“In addition to providing needed power to our grid, the biomass facility provides the added benefit of helping with forest management and wildfire mitigation efforts in our state,” stated Chairman Myers. “Millions of acres of forest in Arizona, particularly those managed by the federal government, still require thinning to reduce wildfire risk. Thinning results in hundreds of thousands of tons of dry biomass that must be responsibly disposed of each year. Novo BioPower provides one solution by converting some of this biomass into energy.”
“I can’t express how grateful we are for Chairman Myers’ interest in and support for biomass generation in northern Arizona,” commented Brad Worsley, CEO of Novo Power. “As the only biomass plant in the state, Novo Biopower plays a critical role in forest restoration and watershed protection. Chairman Myers’ participation on this tour should be appreciated by all residents of northern Arizona who deal with the threat of fire every day.”
“I want to thank Chairman Myers for coming to Snowflake and touring the biomass plant,” stated Jason Whiting, Navajo County Board Supervisor. “His support will be critical as we look to expand our forest restoration efforts.”
The plant has long-term power purchase agreements with Arizona Public Service (APS) and Salt River Project (SRP), providing approximately 14 MW annually for each utility, enough to power around 4,500 homes.
“Arizona’s energy future demands an all-of-the-above approach when it comes to energy generation,” concluded Chairman Myers. “The use of all-source request for proposals (RFPs) by our regulated utilities in developing their energy mixes encourages the use of diverse generation resources with varying characteristics and benefits to meet their energy needs.”
