Phoenix, Ariz. — Arizona Corporation Commission Chair Kevin Thompson and Vice Chair Nick Myers applaud President Trump's appointment of Mark Christie as the new Chairman of the US Federal Regulatory Commission. Christie was originally nominated to serve on FERC in 2020 by President Trump and is currently the senior Republican on the five-member bipartisan Commission.
“I’m pleased to see this administration appoint Mark Christie as the new Chair of FERC,” said Chair Kevin Thompson. “His no-nonsense approach to regulatory responsibility will be a breath of fresh air as FERC works together with state regulators on issues important not only to Arizona, but to our great nation as well!”
“I celebrate President Trump’s appointment of Commissioner Mark Christie as FERC’s next Chairman,” commented Vice Chairman Myers, “Chairman Christie has been a committed champion for state involvement in transmission planning, evident in his dissent in FERC Order No. 1920 and his support for Order No. 1920-A. His state-centered priorities align with those in Arizona where we want to determine our own energy and transmission future without having to pay for costly policy agendas from other states.”
As FERC Chairman, Christie will play a key role in expanding the nation’s electricity and natural gas infrastructure. In a statement, Christie said he would continue to emphasize his top priorities, including “protecting consumers from excessive power bills, meeting the reliability crisis driven by losses of dispatchable generation and failure to build new generation, in the face of rising demand . . . and I have always said that the states must be full partners with FERC in protecting consumers and assuring reliability.”
