PHOENIX – As Arizona enters its second year battling COVID-19, Arizona Public Service Company (“APS”) informed the Arizona Corporation Commission that it has commenced disconnections of service to ratepayers. Today, Commissioner Sandra D. Kennedy has asked APS for a full disclosure of the efforts to reach out to these ratepayers and the impacts to the ratepayers’ attempts to get reconnected. Residential ratepayers who are struggling with bill arrearages are required to be automatically enrolled into an eight month Deferred Payment Arrangement (“DPA”), but a single missed payment subjects the ratepayer to disconnection yet again. The potential impacts to households at imminent risk of disconnection, including loss of access to work and education are enormous. APS should be doing everything – absolutely everything- it can to help prevent households from losing access to work and school, as Arizonans continue to suffer from the devastation of COVID-19.
